Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda might have started to tell us about their lives more than 15 years ago, not much has changed today. So many concepts, questions, advice and catchphrases in which we recognize ourselves. See, the show isn’t just about Manolo Blahnik, sex and cosmopolitans. Beneath the apparent frivolity lies so much truth and honesty about women’s perception of life.
The red thread: Carrie’s “I couldn’t help but wonder”s followed by more or less existentialist questions. Here’s our debriefing of the wisdom we (think we) learnt through the 25 minute-episodes on oh so many subjects…
On monogamy
Samantha: “I think I have monogamy. I must have caught it from you guys.” Carrie: “Now it’s airborne.”

On investment
“I like my money right where I can see it… hanging in my closet.” Carrie
“So, when it comes to finance and dating, I couldn’t help but wonder: Why do we keep investing?” Carrie
On acceptation
“After all, computers crash, people die, relationships fall apart. The best we can do is breathe and reboot.” Carrie
“Sometimes we need to stop analyzing the past, stop planning the future, stop figuring out precisely how we feel, stop deciding exactly what we want, and just see what happens.” Carrie
“A girl should let go of the coulda, woulda, shoulda.” Samantha
On women’s delusions
“No, honey, you’re a woman, and men don’t like women to be human. We aren’t supposed to fart, douche, use tampons or have hair in places we shouldn’t.” Samantha
On love & relationships
“I started to think about restlessness and relationships. Once we’ve found what we’d been searching for, why are some of us reluctant to let go of our single selves?” Carrie
“If you love someone and you breakup, where does the love go?”
Carrie
“Soul mate. Two little words, one big concept. A belief that someone, somewhere, is holding the key to your heart and your dream house. All you have to do is find them. So, where is this person? And if you love someone and it didn’t work out, does that mean they weren’t your soul mate? Were they just a runner-up contestant in this game show called “Happily Ever After”? And, as you move from age box to age box and the contestants get fewer and fewer, are your chances of finding your soul mate less and less? Soul mates: reality or torture device?” Carrie
“Does anybody really know when it’s right? And how do you know? Are there signs? Fireworks? Is it right when it feels comfortable, or is comfortable a sign that there aren’t any fireworks? Is hesitation a sign that it’s not right, or is it just a sign that you’re not ready? In matters of love, how do you know when it’s right?” Carrie
On feminism
On growing up
“When you’re young, your whole life is about the pursuit of fun. Then, you grow up and learn to be cautious. You could break a bone or a heart. You look before you leap and sometimes you don’t even leap at all because there’s not always someone there to catch you. And, in life, there’s no safety net. When did it stop being fun and start being scary?” Carrie
On fashion
“Men I may not know, but shoes, shoes I know” Carrie
On friendship
“No matter who broke your heart, or how long it takes to heal, you’ll never get through it without your friends.” Carrie
“Maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates, and guys are just people to have fun with.” Carrie
As for us gals, we can’t help but wonder…what came first, the chicken or SATC?
