Sometimes I’m afraid to state the obvious. I mean, you probably all know the Brussels Vintage Market. You’re probably one of those who, like me, await the first Sunday of every month to go feast on the clothes and the snacks, get drunk on that frenzy ambiance and hunt for that perfect little piece that completes your outfit.

In that case, needless to read further. You know the marvelous drill.

But perhaps, just perhaps, you’re a Brussels newby who hasn’t yet been initiated in this monthly ritual. And that’s why, at the risk of stating the obvious I’m going to tell you: this Sunday, grab some cash and wander to the Halles St-Géry for the unmissable BVM.

It starts at around 12, so you can have a lie-in, even some early brunch and go there in time to hound some treasures.

That’s exactly what my brother and I did last time. We sat at Exki, right on the corner for some wake-me-up hot beverages and chillaxed for a while. When my anxiety became untameable (also thanks to coffeine) we got up and entered the sublime galleries.

The atmosphere is incredible. You find yourself elbowing in with all kinds of people. From the happy-go-lucky bohemian to the electrified fashionista. Some are sitting leisurely having a beer or a snack. Some are more industrious, knee-deep in the vintage clothes.

After restlessly browsing the merchandise, my brother and I took a break to refuel.

The burger and fries are simply amazing. The fries are perfectly crisp on the outside and mellow on the inside. The burger is good too, but can’t really say much more as my brother ate most of it :P

The BVM is quite big and spreads through 3 floors. You can find glasses, bags, grandma’s dresses, radios, high-end oldies and even designers’ new creations.

But there’s so much more happening. While the DJ sets the vibe, you can enjoy photo exhibits and even have your own picture taken.

And if you’re feeling shy and would rather hide behind a nice piece of cake or cookie, count on the pastries team to find your bliss.

So I guess we both know where we’ll be this Sunday ;)
See you there.
