is one of Brussels’ new cool spots and it’s a goodie. In a nutshell the concept is this: a gorgeous Belgian maison de maître turned into a holistic project: making you cherish your life, changing your lifestyle. Less but better. Less waste, more taste. CHYL is three things in one: a small organic shop, a café serving healthy home-made treats and a beauty corner. All of that is done with great taste, combining scandinavian purity and oriental warmth. You find incredible embroidered cushions here and there, wooven stools and marble tables to contrast. Beautiful and cosy.
The Shop:
You will find a wide array of products from fresh groceries to dry goods, cosmetics, cleaning products, etc. The idea is you buy most things by the weight or litre and avoid the packaging, reducing both the environmental footprint and its costs. Win-win. You can come with your own tupperwares or jars or get some sustainable packaging at the shop. There is a whole wall full of loose products (cereals, pasta, dried fruits, grains…) and you can fill your container with as much as you need. I got some amazing quinoa, chia seeds, pine nuts and and pumpkin seeds. I also loved their wide range of vegetarian foodstuff, with tons of seitan- and soy-based products. I got some meatless hot dogs, falafels, seitan filets and veggie burgers.
The Café
Be it for lunch, tea or brunch, you can count on Chyl to serve you delicious home-made treats. Their portions are generous and healthy, meaning you can take care of yourself while enjoying a super yummy dish or dessert. Their banana bread is super soft and mellow. And don’t you need that mezze platter right now? (see below) I’m coming back for their veggie burger and will definitely try their avocado toast. Looks like green heaven on bread. Brunch plans this weekend, anyone? Do make a reservation, though…
The Beauty Corner
You can treat yourself to a massage or one of their many homemade beauty treatments. All the products are a 100% natural and when possible, locally produced. From sugar-based epilation to reflexology or even hair-dos. The aim is to provide you with a holistic programme combining everyday pampering with long term treatments adapted to your skin and body needs.
