There are a lot of things I could live without. Music is not one of them. There is actually a saying that sums it up pretty well for me: “Music is what feelings sound like”. Without music, no feelings. Without feelings, no life. But you’ll agree that there’s music and there’s music. You know what I mean… Listening to a 3’30 Justin Bieber hit doesn’t give you exactly as many chills as Hotel California by the Eagles. And sadly, it’s hard to come by a radio station that broadcasts anything that doesn’t fit the [3’30 + catchy chorus] format from this week’s top 20. Lucky for us music lovers, David Salomonowicz has put together Alt-r online radio.

David is a journalist and a human shazam, who grew up in a musical family and listened to Pink Floyd while still in his nappies. For the past 20 years of his life surfing the festivals and looking for new sounds, David dreamt of a radio where people could tune in and enjoy the music. Well, Alt-R is now a reality. A web Platform with playlists, concert reviews, pictures, videos… A place away from the industrial formatting, dehumanised algorythms and the fleeting buzz. Here, the editorial line is based on alternative music. No worries, the playlists are totally democratic & accessible, no obscure sounds reserved to the crazy few. The perfect spot to listen to that tune you love and hadn’t come across for ages or to discover the absolutely rad Belgian band that isn’t on the mainstream scene.

There are different playlists during the week. They’re made of 25 songs and go for 1h30-2h. There’s the weekly playlist made of 50% Rock, 25% Hip/Hop and 25% Electro and then a “Genre” playlist for each day of the week:

  • Monday: Alternative Rock
  • Tuesday: Hip/Hop
  • Wednesday: Made  –>  either Made In (for ex : Belgium) or Made By (for ex : BRNS’ drummer)
  • Thursday: Electro
  • Friday : Live
  • Saturday: Loud Rock
  • Sunday: Chill

If you’re into good music, I suggest you give Alt-R a go right now. And once you see what I mean, maybe you’ll even support the project via the crowdfunding campaign on Kisskissbankbank. Only 10 days to go!
